Journey Into Starspace Board Game

JOURNEY INTO STARS, BOARD GAMES FOR LITTLE WHERE Celestial bodies are of two kinds: planets and fixed stars. The planets, which to us shine like stars, are in themselves dark, but receive light from the sun, round which they move in circular orbits, whereby they also change their position in the firmament. The larger ones, which belong to our solar system, are in order of their distance from the sun: Mercury (5.5 million miles from the Sun) - Venus (10.25 million) - Saturn (136.5 million) - Uranus (274.5 million) - Neptune (nearly 430 million miles from the Sun) - The Sun is 1 million miles from the Sun. 400 thousand times the size of the Earth. - Fixed stars, those stars which always appear to remain in the same position as each other, are themselves suns in their planetary systems. They are at immense distances from us. For light, which travels nearly 29,000 miles a second, it takes a time of 3 years and 8 months to reach us from the nearest one. To get from the Pole Star to us, light needs 50 years, and from Sirius, which is the brightest star in the sky, 22 years; from others, hundreds, even thousands of years. - There are about 6,000 stars visible to the naked eye, but with the aid of telescopes, it has been calculated that there are some 43 million. stars of the 1st size. stars of the 2nd size. stars of the 3rd size. the stars of the 4th and less. GAME RULES As many people as necessary, but at least persons, can participate in the game, which is played with one dice. Before starting, each participant makes his/her contribution to the cash box. Earth is the intended starting point of the journey; the pole star is the first station. Each player places his marker at the number indicated by his first throw of the dice and then follows the line marked in white during the course of the game. All stars surrounded by rings are stations during the journey; the rings which are out of place indicate that at that place some special rules are to be observed. The double-ringed stars mark the planets within our synchrony and their positions on January 1, 1874. For each planet, one mark is taken from the cash box, in accordance with the rules in force for each planet. If during the course of the game two players have "died", they may, if they so wish, start again on payment of a new stake. If anyone has been moved from one place to another in consequence of a special regulation at any station, the rule which may be recorded at the place of arrival does not apply to him. No one may, by a higher roll of the dice than is necessary, make his way to the intended endpoint, the earth (which may, if he wishes, be designated in his mind as No:72); but if anyone rolls higher than is necessary, he goes back as many steps as the surplus indicates. For example, if you are at No:70 and you dial 6, you will come back to No:68 because the station you are at is not included in the calculation and the earth must be thought of as No:72. If on the same number, 70, you dial 2, you go out. The first one to get this far wins the game, i.e. all the chips in the box. 1. The pole star shines on your path And away to Sirius leads you. 2. Perseus re'n your orbit closes, He swings his sword at you; Fear not, But two throws thou must delay. 8.
