How to draw an ant
In this tutorial we will draw a meat-eater ant or gravel ant which can be found throughout Australia.
How to draw an ant
step-1
GRID STEP. You can print out the base construction lines and start drawing on tracing paper or you can draw the grid layout yourself using the following steps.
1) Draw a rectangle that will define the conditional proportions and boundaries of the chosen drawing. 2) From the middle of the rectangle, draw one vertical and one horizontal line equally dividing the shape. 3) Draw another horizontal line equally dividing the upper half of the rectangle. Similarly, draw a horizontal line equally dividing the bottom half of the rectangle. 4) Draw a vertical line equally dividing the left half of the rectangle. Similarly, draw a vertical line equally dividing the right half of the rectangle.
step-2
STEP 1. Mark off the width and height of the picture. Draw an oval that will serve as a basic shape for the head of the ant. Draw a line, which will act as the center of it. With a smooth line, show the direction of the body.
step-3
STEP 2. Outline two ovals and a small circle between them at the place where the body is supposed to be. Draw guidelines for the abdomen of the ant.
step-4
STEP 3. Draw guidelines for the legs of the ant, marking with cross lines their proportions. Add the shape of the eyes.
step-5
STEP 4. Draw the shapes of the legs and head.
step-6
STEP 5. Add some lines to show the form of the head and the thorax of the ant.
step-7
STEP 6. Draw some additional lines to indicate the form of the ant’s abdomen. Delineate the eyes, antennas and the lower part of the legs.
step-8
STEP 7. Work on the whole shape and figure, adding more details.
step-9
STEP 8. Contour, trying to vary the thickness and blackness of the line. Add some extra details around the ant, such as ground or grass. Erase all guidelines.
