How to draw Christ Salvator Mundi by Leonardo Da Vinci
How to draw Christ Salvator Mundi by Leonardo Da Vinci
step-1
GRID STEP. You can print out the base construction lines and start drawing on tracing paper or you can draw the grid layout yourself using the following steps.
• Locate the head in advance and draw its approximate size using an oval. • Divide the head in half with the centre horizontal line. Draw 1 more above head. At the same distance, add an edge top line. • Under the centre horizontal line, add 4 more at the same distance. At 1/3 of this distance, add the lowest line. • Draw a central vertical line the centre of the head. • Draw 2 vertical lines on the sides of the head. From them, draw from them to the sides 2 lines: -1 line at the same distance and 1 line 2/3 to the left -1 line at the same distance and 1 2/3 to the right. The left and rightmost lines are the vertical boundaries of your drawing.
step-2
STEP 1. Sketch auxiliary shapes and lines for the torsos. Extend the line from the torso to the lower part of the body.
step-3
STEP 2. Mark the auxiliary lines for the face. Sketch the silhouette of the arms and joints.
step-4
STEP 3. Mark out the eyes and mouth. Outline the shoulders, neck and chest, bringing this part together. In Christ's hand, draw a circle. Erase the excess.
step-5
STEP 4. Detail the face and draw the hair. Make the outlines of the fingers more distinct. Draw the collar and a button.
step-6
STEP 5. Finish with the fingers. Draw the hair on the back. Sketch the clothing. Erase any excess lines.
step-7
STEP 6. Draw the hair and wavy beard. Add pleats to the garment. Work the arms.
step-8
STEP 7. Add small lines for the print.
step-9
STEP 8. Check that there are no extra lines in the drawing. Contour Christ, trying to vary the thickness and darkness of the line.
step-10
STEP 9. Colour in the picture and bring it to life. Enjoy your drawing!
