How to draw Dance by Henri Matisse
GRID STEP. You can print out the base construction lines and start drawing on tracing paper or you can draw the grid layout yourself using the following steps.
• Draw the first oval from the top right near the centre. • Draw 1 horizontal line above the top head. Draw another horizontal line much closer above it. • Draw 1 horizontal line below this head. Add 9 horizontal lines from the bottom equal in height to this head. • To the left and right of this head draw one vertical line each. From them to the sides draw: -4 vertical lines equal to the width of the head to the right; -11 vertical lines equal to the width of the head to the left. • After that, continue drawing the head: -on the second horizontal line from the top draw the head so that the seventh vertical line from the left crosses it in the centre; -one line below, draw the head so that it is between the fourth and fifth vertical line from the left; -between the fifth and sixth horizontal lines from the bottom, draw another head. Define so that its centre is intersected by the ninth vertical line from the left; -position the last head so that the seventh horizontal line from the bottom and the second vertical line from the right intersect it in the centre.

GRID STEP. Under each head, draw ovals for the bodies. Add a through stripe to each in the direction of body movement.
GRID STEP. Outline each character's legs with knee joints. Erase any excess lines.
GRID STEP. Mark everyone's feet. Sketch two hands each and connect the characters to each other.
GRID STEP. Sketch the torsos of the dancers. Make the fingers on the hands more distinct. Draw hair on the back of the head. Wipe off any excess detail.
GRID STEP. Draw the legs and remove the auxiliary lines.
GRID STEP. Draw the arms and remove the auxiliary lines. Add some toes. Draw hair on some of the characters.
GRID STEP. Detail the drawing by outline some of the body parts. Draw a face for one character and an ear for another. Add earth to the background.
GRID STEP. Check that there are no extra lines in the drawing. Contour dancers, trying to vary the thickness and darkness of the line.
GRID STEP. Colour in the picture and bring it to life. Enjoy your drawing!
